winter break?!?!

(and a little before) i know, i shouldn't be blogging right now. i should in fact be finishing up my college applications. (just submitted vassar today!)
but i've been taking photos like a psychotic maniac since the 23rd and here are a few preview shots. all will eventually become blog posts.

i made a butterfly out of wire and photographed it with my friend gloria.

i went over to my friend daisy's house to check out her adorable new kitten. (whose name is kitty. lulz. and he's a dude. i kept calling him a her D:) only the two photos up on flickr are edited, the rest are sooc.

daisy's house has dim lighting, so some of the photos might be blurry!

just a normal day, until my friend called around ten and asked:
gloria: julia, can i ask you an odd question?
me: wut?
gloria: .....can i borrow your electricity?
(she lives near my house)

her house has loses power often for hours at a time so i said lol sure and she came over. i remember telling her, yeah we rarely loose power at my house (maybe once (or none) in a year).

fifteen minutes later. *power dies*

ironic. ironic. ironic. but the power came back in 15 minutes :B here's us, reading by laptop light.

doing homework like good little children upstairs.

i hate it when the power goes out, and for a few moments you are totally blind. but i remembered where i stashed all the flashlights so i ambled upstairs and got 'em.

gloria came over today to model for meh incense/smoke idea. (thanks gloria!!) i think smoke is a beautiful, untangible delicate thing. but i think smoking is absolutely disgusting and artists that promote it "to take a risk" are not helping with the 'let's no die of cancer' cause. the only time i would ever photograph smoking is when i photodocument. NEVER will i purposely put a cigarette in any of my photos.

i wanted to do this shoot to prove there are other sources for smoke besides smoking.

INCENSE :) well, if you're not asian you probably don't have any - but stop by at the local asian store and pick 'em up. or bed bath and beyond...i found some huge incense sticks there (can't find it in my room though) i personally can't stand the smell of the traditional incense sticks - drives me insane. but when my mom recently went to taiwan she bought me some cute little japanese jasmine scented ones!

i took these with the floodlights outside of my garage. i apologize for SO many photos - but i really couldn't choose! yes, they are all very similar - the only thing that is different is the smoke shapes :D

in retrospect i wished i used a faster shutter speed, but you'll have to live with the blurred ones (which i kind of like) i have no idea which to post, so tell me your favorites! (please!)
